SCB Medical College hit by lack of senior school

CUTTACK:  Transfer of senior school from SCB Medical College and Hospital to newly arrange medical schools and hospitals has severely affected the functioning of the State’s premier government-run hospital.

Within one month, as many as 26 senior school have been transferred from SCB MCH to different medical schools and hospitals towards the posting of solely 4. This aside, three senior specialists of SCB MCH too have retired between January and March this 12 months.  

At current, there are not any professors in Nephrology, Microbiology and Physiology departments.The vacancies created after retirement or transfers of senior school haven’t been stuffed but, which has severely hit affected person care, alleged SCB  Junior Doctors Association whereas interesting to the State authorities to cancel the current transfers and refill the present vacancies on pressing foundation.

“More than 700 PG students and 1,000 MBBS undergraduate students are currently studying in different departments. The academics and research work have been adversely affected due to acute shortage of senior faculty,” stated SCB JDA president Dr Abhishek Biswal in a press convention. 

The Health and Family Welfare Department on March 11 had revealed notification for promotion and switch of lecturers of various medical schools and hospitals throughout the State. While 16 assistant professors have been promoted as affiliate professors, 22 affiliate professors have been elevated as professors.

Of them, as many as 12 associates professors and 11 assistant professors of SCB MCH have been promoted.  However, 9 affiliate professors have been transferred to medical schools in Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Koraput and different locations, however no replacements have come towards them.  Similarly, 10 of the 12 associates professors who have been promoted to professors too have been transferred to different medical schools whereas solely two professors have been appointed as replacements, the medicos physique alleged.
