1 min read

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday appealed to the farmers to donate hay after harvesting to ensure adequate fodder to the cattle in ‘Gauthans’.

He was addressing the online release of Rs 6.18 crore payment to 51,286 cow dung sellers from his residence-cum-office at Raipur.

Baghel said the Godhan Nyay scheme has become a vital link to strengthen the rural economy. All categories of people were showing interest and want to earn income through it. Now, the need is to make the Gauthans active so that they become self-reliant.

The women self-help groups along with Gauthan committees should be linked with agriculture colleges and Agriculture Science Centres (KVK) for continuous activities. There is no need for funding from the state government.

If all the activities are operational in a time-bound manner, more revenue can be earned, he said.

The Chief Minister appreciated the 43 Gauthans which have become self-reliant: 28 in Surguja district, 6 of South Bastar (Dantewada), 5 of Balod and two each of Surajpur and Kabirdham districts.

He laid emphasis on construction of more vermi-compost tanks based on collection of cow dung and number of cattle. In bigger Gauthans and each Municipal Corporation limits, bio-gas plants should be established.
