West Bengal publicizes exemption of registration charges, motorcar and extra taxes

KOLKATA: The West Bengal Friday introduced exemption of registration charges, motorcar and extra taxes for 2 and four-wheeled electrical autos and all classes of CNG-operated autos from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2024, a authorities official stated right here.

The order exempting motorcar and extra taxes together with registration charges for 2 and four-wheeled battery-operated electrical autos and all classes of CNG-operated autos from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2024 is as per the state finance minister’s price range announcement for 2022-23.

“It is felt necessary to give some kind of financial relief/exemption to incentivise investment in battery-operated electric vehicles and also to incentivise reduction in carbon footprint and to reduce dependence on petrol/diesel,” the order stated.

Industry watchers stated that the exemption of registration charges and motorcar tax will act as a lift for elevated demand for clear energy-run autos.
