NCP takes dig at BJP over Gujarat’s bid to rename dragon fruit

The NCP on Wednesday focused the BJP over the Gujarat authorities’s resolution to rename dragon fruit as ‘Kamalam’, saying the time might not be far when the saffron celebration would begin calling the nation as “Kamalastan”.
The BJP has now began “branding itself on fruits also,” NCP chief spokesperson Mahesh Tapase stated in an announcement.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Tuesday stated his authorities has determined to rename dragon fruit as ‘Kamalam’.
Reacting to it, Tapase stated, “The BJP has now started branding itself on fruits also. We fear that the time may be not far when they would start addressing Hindustan as Kamalastan.” The BJP’s election image is lotus, which is known as ‘kamal’ in Hindi.

Rupani on Tuesday stated the Gujarat authorities has utilized for a patent to alter the nomenclature of dragon fruit, which is basically grown in Kutch, Navsari and totally different elements of Saurashtra, to ‘Kamalam’.
He additionally stated there’s nothing political behind renaming of the fruit.
“The name dragon fruit is not proper, and due to its name one thinks of China. So we have given it the name ‘Kamalam’,” Rupani stated.
“Farmers say it looks like lotus and that is the reason we have named it ‘Kamalam’,” he added.
