IIT (BHU) orders probe into enjoying of ‘vulgar’ Bhojpuri songs after flag hoisting

VARANASI: The Indian Institute of Technology – Banaras Hindu University has arrange a probe staff to inquire into the enjoying of “vulgar” Bhojpuri songs allegedly after the nationwide flag was hoisted on the event of Independence Day, official sources stated on Tuesday.

The incident, the video of which went viral on social media, drew widespread criticism, prompting the IIT administration to represent a committee to inquire into the matter.

An official of the IIT (BHU) stated on Tuesday that like yearly, a programme was organised to hoist the nationwide flag on Independence day on the Gymkhana floor.

After the programme ended and when the academics and non-teaching workers left the venue, some youths linked the music system with their cell phones, performed some Bhojpuri songs, and commenced dancing to them.

He added that as quickly because the workers heard the “vulgar songs”, they switched off the music system and requested the youths to go away the venue.

Joint Registrar Rajan Srivastava stated that the institute has taken cognisance of the dance on indecent Bhojpuri songs, and a committee has been fashioned to probe the incident.

“Action will be taken after the probe report comes,” he stated.

Teachers and intellectuals alike termed the incident as “objectionable and indecent.”

Anil Upadhyay, a former professor of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, stated that such incidents shouldn’t have taken place on such an auspicious event.

“BHU has its own illustrious history and the BHU administration should have stopped an incident of this type,” he stated.

Many others from the educating neighborhood have expressed concern over the incident.
