Efforts continue for the safe return of 33 Indians stranded in Somalia: External Affairs Minister Jaishankar

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said on Friday 23 October that the High Commission of India in Nairobi was engaged in the relief and recovery of 33 Indians trapped in Mogadishu, Somalia. All these companies have been in their custody for the last eight months.

The Foreign Minister tweeted that the Indian High Commission in Somalia has apprised the Somali authorities about the tragic situation of these Indians. Contact has also been made with the Somali Embassy in India. Hope to find a solution soon.

It is noteworthy that 25 of India’s 33 laborers are from Uttar Pradesh. All of them are employed in SOM Steel Company of Somalia. They are not getting enough to eat there either. This company paid him salary for the first two months and since then has not paid any salary for the last eight months.
