‘We’re completed begging’: Climate activists paint London orange to protest fossil gas use

On Monday, local weather activists spray-painted 4 key buildings in London in protest in opposition to fossil gas extraction.

By India Today Web Desk: Climate activists have made a splash once more and this time the landmark buildings in London have been their goal. The Home Office, the MI5 constructing, the Bank of England, and the headquarters of News Corp at London Bridge have been spray-painted by local weather activists to protest in opposition to fossil fuels.

On Monday, six ‘Just Stop Oil’ supporters sprayed orange paint on the 4 buildings, which they dubbed as “four pillars of fossil fuel economy”. A video shared by the environmental activists group confirmed the supporters spraying orange paint from a fireplace extinguisher.

The group is demanding the UK authorities to halt all new oil and fuel consents and licenses. For their protest, they selected the 4 key buildings, claiming that they “were chosen to represent the four pillars that support and maintain the power of the fossil fuel economy — government, security, finance and media.”

“We are not prepared to stand by and watch while everything we love is destroyed, while vulnerable people go hungry and fossil fuel companies and the rich profit from our misery. The era of fossil fuels should be long gone, but the creeping tentacles of fossil fuel interests continue to corrupt our politics, government and media as they have for decades,” a Just Stop Oil spokesperson mentioned.

The spokesperson questioned, “How else do you explain a government ignoring sensible no-brainer policies like renewables, insulation and public transport, which would cut our energy bills and our carbon emissions, in favour of corrupt schemes to drill for uneconomic oil and gas at taxpayers’ expense?”

The group claimed that they’re appearing to cease oil and fuel because it was the “right thing to do”.

“Well, we’re done with begging. We are acting to stop new oil and gas because it is the right thing to do. As humans, we have every right to protect ourselves and those we love. The Government has the power to end the disruption today by agreeing to stop new oil and gas,” the Just Stop Oil spokesperson mentioned.

The local weather activists have been focusing on landmarks and artworks as they proceed to protest in opposition to fossil gas. Earlier this month, supporters of Just Stop Oil had thrown tomato soup at Vincent Van Gogh’s masterpiece ‘Sunflowers’ on the National Gallery in London. The two protesters had then glued themselves to the museum’s wall.

Van Gogh’s portray was unhurt however there was some minor harm to the body.
