US imposes sanctions on two Chinese officers for human rights abuses towards Uyghur Muslims

The United States on Monday introduced sanctions towards two Chinese officers for the human rights abuses being carried out towards Uyghur Muslims in China. The determination got here days after the Biden administration held first bilateral assembly with China.
Following the choice to sanction the Chinese officers, the US has joined the league of nations like Canada, the UK and the European Union. The determination was reportedly an element part of the of present of unity by the US and its worldwide allies by condemning the Chinese atrocities on Uyghur Muslims. According to studies, a joint assertion was issued by the US and its allies stating that there have been proof of China’s atrocities towards Uyghur Muslims. “The evidence, including from the Chinese government’s own documents, satellite imagery and eyewitnesses testimony is overwhelming. China’s extensive program of repression includes severe restrictions on religious freedoms, the use of forced labor, mass detention in internment camps, forced sterilisatons and the concerted destruction of Uyghur heritage”, the joint assertion learn.
US belongings of the Chinese officers to be frozen following the sanctions
The US Treasury Department reportedly knowledgeable that Wang Junzheng, the Secretary of the Party Committee of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (XPCC) and Cheng Mingguo, Director of the Xinjiang Public Security Bureau (XPSB) have been sanctioned for ‘serious human rights abuses’ towards the Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang province of China. The sanctions have been imposed underneath the US Global Magnitsky Act. As results of the sanctions, the US belongings of the Chinese officers, if any, can be frozen and any US entities can be prohibited from doing enterprise with them.
Director of the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the Treasury Department, Andrea M. Gacki stated, “Chinese authorities will continue to face consequences as long as atrocities occur in Xinjiang. Treasury is committed to promoting accountability for the Chinese government’s human rights abuses, including arbitrary detention and torture, against Uyghur and other ethnic minorities”.
