UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has handed away, as per a report by state media.

United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has died, state information company WAM reported on Friday. He was additionally ruler of Abu Dhabi emirate.

Under the structure, vice-president and premier Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, ruler of Dubai, will act as president till the federal council which teams the rulers of the seven emirates meets inside 30 days to elect a brand new president.

Khalifa, who was born in 1948, got here to energy in 2004 within the richest emirate Abu Dhabi and have become the top of state. He is anticipated to be succeeded as ruler of Abu Dhabi by his half-brother Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan.

Mohammed bin Zayed has been the de facto ruler of the U.S.-allied UAE, notably after Khalifa suffered a stroke in 2014, following which he has not often been seen in public.
