Toshakhana case: Pakistan courtroom grants protecting bail to Khan until June 21

By Press Trust of India: A Pakistani courtroom on Wednesday granted protecting bail to former prime minister Imran Khan until June 21 after a recent FIR was registered towards him for committing forgery in promoting the state presents.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Pakistan authorities registered a case of fraud and forgery towards former prime minister Khan, his spouse Bushra Bibi and their shut aides for allegedly making ready and submitting faux and cast receipts relating to Toshakhana presents.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) additionally stopped police from arresting Khan’s spouse Bushra Bibi until June 13 in any case.

The LHC decide Amjad Rafique granted bail to the couple after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman appeared earlier than it amid excessive safety.

Khan’s counsel contended that his consumer has been falsely implicated within the case with malafide intentions and ulterior motives.

“The sole objective of naming the petitioner in the FIR is to harass, blackmail and politically victimise Khan,” the lawyer stated and requested that protecting bail be granted.

In the FIR registered in Islamabad, the police booked Khan, his spouse Bushra Bibi and his two aides Shahzad Akbar and Zulfi Bukhari.

“The suspects committed fraud, and forgery when the PTI was in power for the purpose of cheating and presented a fake receipt of our business letterhead wherein false receipt showing sale purchases of gifts such as watches, cuff links are fraudulently obtained from Toshakhana (national treasury) with false signatures was prepared,” the FIR stated.

The Toshakhana is a division underneath the executive management of the Cabinet Division and shops valuable presents given to rulers, parliamentarians, bureaucrats, and officers by heads of different governments and states and international dignitaries.

On a separate petition of Bushra Bibi, Amjad Rafique granted her bail on this case and likewise stopped the police from arresting her until June 13.

The Toshakhana difficulty over the sale of state presents obtained by the cricketer-turned-politician grew to become a serious difficulty in nationwide politics after the Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified the previous premier for making “false statements and incorrect declaration”.

Khan is dealing with over 100 instances, whereas Bushra is nominated in two instances — Toshakhana (presents) and the Al-Qadir Trust case.

The Al-Qadir Trust case alleges that the PTI chief and his spouse obtained billions of rupees and land from an actual property agency for legalising Rs 50 billion that was recognized and returned to the nation by the UK through the earlier PTI authorities.
