It seems they are planning another wave of attack in areas that have been left in the last day. I am living in one part of Durban with my kids, while my husband is stuck in Pietermaritzburg (capital of KwaZulu Natal) with my parents, which is completely gutted and destroyed.”SUPPLIES RUNNING OUT, POWER COULD GO OUT ANYTIME”We at the moment have power but most of the neighbouring areas have lost it. Food and water supplies are also on the brink and we are praying and hoping that it does not go. The only reason we have power supplies is that people from within the community are guarding power stations with no assistance from police or administration. We are afraid that they might be overrun. (Photo: AP)DEATH AND INJURED”While guarding the area a 16-year-old Indian boy was killed and at least 10 civilians have been caught in the crossfires while others have been injured in the area. Due to the lawlessness on the streets, we have been unable to reach out to hospitals, which have been occupied by injured looters themselves. They also blew up the largest factory that supplies medical oxygen to hospitals last night and looted the biggest distribution warehouse that supplies food and medicines to Durban and other parts of the country. There has been no response even when the consulate is just five kilometres away from where we live in Durban. We have not been able to reach out to them as communication lines are down.”WHAT’S HAPPENING IN SOUTH AFRICA: THE LATESTThe South African Police Service (SAPS) mentioned that as many as 72 folks have misplaced their lives whereas 1,234 folks have been arrested.
