Rishi Sunak tops first spherical of voting in UK management contest

Former British finance minister Rishi Sunak gained probably the most votes within the first spherical of voting to succeed Boris Johnson as chief of the Conservative Party and prime minister, as two candidates had been eradicated.

Sunak scored 88 votes, forward of junior commerce minister Penny Mordaunt on 67 and overseas Secretary Liz Truss on 50. Finance minister Nadhim Zahawi and former cabinet minister Jeremy Hunt had been eradicated.

Lawmaker Kemi Badenoch obtained 40 votes, Tom Tugendhat obtained 37 and Suella Braverman obtained 32.
