Pak-Canadian columnist Tarek Fatah dies at 73 after prolonged illness

By India Today Web Desk: Noted Pakistani columnist and creator Tarek Fatah, based in Canada, died presently after a long-drawn battle with most cancers, his daughter, Natasha Fatah, confirmed. He was 73.

“Lion of Punjab. Son of Hindustan. Lover of Canada. Speaker of actuality. Fighter for justice. Voice of the down-trodden, underdogs, and the oppressed. Tarek Fatah has handed the baton on… his revolution will proceed with all who knew and favored him. Will you be part of us? 1949-2023,” Natasha tweeted.

On Sunday, Natasha tweeted a few “slow Sunday with dad”, “listening to old Bollywood songs” and their “shared love for Mother India”.

“Enjoying a slow Sunday morning with my dad. Listening to old Bollywood songs and I’m wearing orange for our shared love for Mother India. And a hit of red for our adopted and adored home Canada,” she had written.

Fatah was recognized for his progressive views on Islam and his fiery stance on Pakistan. He often expressed his help to the BJP-led NDA authorities in India.

Born in Pakistan in 1949, Fatah migrated to Canada throughout the early Eighties and labored as a political activist, journalist and television host in Canada and authored a variety of books.
