Over 50 protesters injured in anti-government protests in Peru

By Reuters: Police officers and protesters have been injured in anti-government protests within the division of Ica on Wednesday, January 25, positioned south of Lima.

Peru’s state information company stated a minimum of 57 folks have been injured when police dismantled the blockade arrange by protesters on the Panamericana Sur freeway.

Maria del Socorro hospital in Ica reported they obtained 24 injured sufferers – 14 police and ten protesters.

The army personnel have been deployed to the southern division of Puno.

Protesters are demanding the resignation of Boluarte, early new elections, the shutdown of the Congress, and a brand new structure to switch a market-friendly one relationship again to Alberto Fujimori within the Nineteen Nineties.

Protests have rocked Peru since President Pedro Castillo was ousted in December after he tried to dissolve the legislature to stop an impeachment vote. More than 50 folks have been killed because of the unrest.

Some locals pointed the finger at Boluarte, accusing her of not taking motion to quell the protests, which started on Dec. 7 in response to the ouster and arrest of Castillo.

Human rights teams have accused the police and military of utilizing lethal firearms. The police say protesters have used weapons and do-it-yourself explosives.
