No 10 Downing Street has been the residence of British prime ministers since 1735, says the federal government’s web site. It has three capabilities – the official residence of the Prime Minister, their workplace and the place the prime minister entertains company from world leaders to royalty.

Sunak, alongside along with his spouse Akshata Murty and two daughters, stayed within the flat when he was chancellor to former prime minister Boris Johnson.

The residential areas inside Downing Street, are typically avoided the general public eye.

Speaking to the Times newspaper in August in the course of the hectic summer time management contest, Sunak stated the household would “probably just move back into the flat where we used to live, to be honest” if elected.

“We have already decorated it and it’s lovely,” he stated.

Several predecessors together with Johnson elected to dwell in No 11 as a result of the four-bedroom flat there’s a lot bigger than the one above No 10, the BBC reported.

Tony Blair and his spouse Cherie and their household had been the primary to make the change, swapping residence with the then single Gordon Brown. The Blairs turned the area right into a household residence, it stated.

Asked whether or not Sunak and his household will redecorate, the Prime Minister’s press secretary stated: “Not that I’m aware of.”

In April, earlier than Sunak resigned as chancellor, his household moved out of Downing Street to their west London home to be nearer to their kids’s college.

In the interview with the Times, Sunak insisted that the transfer from Downing Street in April was as a result of his eldest daughter was in her final time period of major college and was meant to have the ability to stroll to highschool by herself on daily basis.

It is way bigger than it seems from the entrance, with a warren of rooms and staircases spreading from the corridor with the chequered ground instantly behind the entrance door, the BBC report stated.

Sunak on Tuesday took cost as Britain’s first Indian-origin Prime Minister. The 42-year-old funding banker-turned politician is the youngest British prime minister in 210 years. He can also be Britain’s first Hindu Prime Minister.
