Nepal SC orders registration of petition towards PM ‘Prachanda’ on use of kid troopers throughout insurgency

By Press Trust of India: Nepal’s Supreme Court on Friday ordered the registration of a writ petition towards Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, the then-chairman of the insurgent Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), for struggle crimes for utilizing kids as Maoist troopers throughout the decade-long struggle towards the monarchy.

Earlier, Bista’s writ petition was dismissed by the Supreme Court, following which he approached the courtroom towards its dismissal.

The United Nations Mission in Nepal had disqualified 4,008 troopers of the Peoples Liberation Army of then-rebel CPN-M, saying they had been minors and late recruits.

During the verification that led to December 2007, it was discovered that 2,972 guerrillas had been minors, whereas 1,036 had been recruited into the Nepal Army below the military integration course of in accordance with the Comprehensive Peace Accord signed in 2006 when the Maoists joined politics by laying down arms.

However, the Maoist management delayed their launch.
