Military trial of attackers concerned in protest after Imran Khan’s arrest to be held in jail on day by day foundation

“The trial of the arrested suspects of May 9 violence will be held in jail on a daily basis under the Anti-Terrorism Act,” Punjab caretaker chief minister Mohsin Naqvi stated.

The related departments have been knowledgeable in regards to the trial proceedings in jail, he stated.

“We want to expedite the legal action against the culprits involved in the May 9 attacks,” he stated, directing the police and prosecution departments to current sturdy proof in opposition to the accused.

He emphasised that no leniency must be proven to any perpetrator concerned on this heinous crime and ordered to accentuate efforts to apprehend the absconding suspects.

The Punjab authorities claimed it had arrested over 3,000 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) get together leaders and staff within the aftermath of the May 9 riots. Of them, it stated, 1,400 suspects have been launched thus far due to lack of proof.

Amnesty International has expressed concern over the trial of civilians in navy courts.

“Trying civilians in military courts is contrary to International Human Rights Law and violating the right to a fair trial guaranteed under Article 14 of the ICCPR, which guarantees the right to a trial before competent, independent and impartial courts established by the law,” it stated.

It added that underneath its General Comment on Article 14 of the ICCPR, the UN Human Rights Committee has affirmed that “fundamental principles of fair trial” are non-derogate.

Pakistan ratified the ICCPR in 2010 and is certain by these worldwide obligations.
