Low turnout at pro-Khalistan rally exterior Indian High Commission in London

By India Today World Desk: A small group of protesters known as by pro-Khalistani teams gathered exterior the Indian High Commission in London on Saturday.

The protest included controversial posters with photos of the Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami and the Consul General of India in Birmingham, Shashank Vikram, inciting anti-India rhetoric.

Despite the attention-grabbing posters, the turnout for the protest was comparatively low, based on information company PTI.

There was a notable police presence all through the protest, which ended ahead of anticipated.

Ahead of the rally, the UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly on Thursday mentioned that any direct assaults on the Indian High Commission in London have been utterly unacceptable in response to the emergence of anti-India assaults and posters by Khalistani extremists on social media.

He emphasised that “safety of staff at the High Commission is paramount.”

In view of earlier incidents on the High Commission, together with an try to drag down the Indian tricolour and smash home windows in March, steps have been taken to boost safety measures for the current pro-Khalistan rally.

The UK authorities mentioned that it could work with the Metropolitan Police to evaluation safety on the Indian High Commission and implement needed adjustments for the protection of its workers.

POSTERS AGAINST INDIAN DIPLOMATS

Recently, Indian diplomats in Canada, US and Australia have been named in pamphlets for the July 8 Khalistan Freedom Rally within the UK. The posters claimed that India was answerable for the killing of Khalistani Hardeep Nijjar.

Khalistan Tiger Force chief Nijjar, probably the most wished terrorists in India, was shot on June 18 by two unidentified males within the parking zone of Guru Nanak Gurdwara Sahib in Surrey, Canada.
