By India Today Web Desk: A Middle East Airlines passenger airplane sure for Lebanon’s capital Beirut from Jordan was hit by a stray bullet throughout touchdown on Wednesday. No harm has been reported thus far. The bullet is suspected to have been shot in a celebratory hearth.
MEA chairman Mohamad El-Hout stated seven to eight stationary planes are hit by stray bullets from areas neighbouring Beirut airport annually. However, Wednesday’s incident was the primary one which occurred whereas a airplane was transferring.
Lebanon isn’t any stranger to celebratory gunfire. Owning a gun in Lebanon is kind of frequent and weapons are fired to mark even trivial events like speeches by politicians and the discharge of official examination outcomes, amongst different occasions.
Cautioning in opposition to such firing, Hout stated, “These practices of shooting in the air in Lebanon must be stopped … it is a source of danger to air traffic and the airport.”
Lebanese minister Paula Yacoubian was on the flight and shared the pictures of the plane after the bullet hit the fuselage. She stated she was sitting in seat 2F when the incident occurred “right above my head”. She tweeted: “Uncontrolled weapons and stray bullets must be put to an end.”
