Knew I used to be going to be attacked: Imran Khan in first speech after surviving assassination

By India Today Web Desk: A day after he survived an alleged assassination try, former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan mentioned he knew he was going to be attacked.

Imran Khan, who was shot in his proper leg by the attacker throughout his rally within the Wazirabad space of Pakistan’s Punjab province, addressed the nation on Friday from a hospital in Lahore.

“I will come to the details of the attack later. I got to know the day before [the attack] that either in Wazirabad of Gujrat, they planned to kill me,” Dawn quoted Imran Khan as saying. “I was hit by 4 bullets.”

“Four people planned my assassination in a closed room. I made a video and kept it. I have told that if anything happens to me, then the video should be released,” Imran Khan added.

Imran Khan claimed that three “top officials” had been a part of the sinister plot to assassinate him — the identical means former governor Salman Taseer was killed in 2011 by a non secular extremist.

Imran Khan’s shut aide and his social gathering chief Fawad Chaudhry had yesterday named Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and Major General Faisal Naseer as behind the assault on Imran Khan.

“Firstly, they accused me of blasphemy […] they made tapes and launched them and PMLN projected it, I knew who was doing it,” Imran Khan claimed.

“It is very easy to find out because this is a digital world. So first it was projected that I disrespected religion and then their plan was what they did in Wazirabad […] that a religious extremist killed Imran Khan,” he added.

Imran Khan also urged his followers to continue protests in the country, adding that he will continue his march to Islamabad once he gets out of the hospital.

“Till the time these three do not resign, you should protest within the streets. Your structure offers you this proper to protest, your faith offers you the proper to hold out jihad in opposition to injustice. This is your obligation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Interior Ministry has asked the Punjab provincial government to constitute a high-level joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the case.

The police have arrested three people so far. Naveed Mohammad Basheer, the man who shot at Imran Khan, was arrested on Thursday from the spot of the incident. He later confessed to the police that he tried to assassinate Imran Khan because “he was making an attempt to mislead the general public.”

The police have additionally arrested two extra suspects, who they consider had offered the pistol and bullets for Rs 20,000 to Basheer.
