Justice Dalveer Bhandari votes towards Russia in ICJ verdict directing Moscow to stop offensive in Ukraine

When the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Wednesday handed a 13-2 verdict towards Russia, Justice Dalveer Bhandari from India voted in favour of Ukraine. However, he voted solely as a member of the ICJ and his opinion isn’t India’s official stand.

The ICJ on Wednesday known as on the Russian Federation to stop hostilities in Ukraine, stating that it was “profoundly concerned” by Russia’s use of power. Kyiv hailed the decision as a victory, however Moscow maintained that the Hague-based courtroom ‘lacks jurisdiction’ to listen to the case.

While Justice Dalveer Bhandari from India voted towards Russia, the 2 votes towards the order have been solid by ICJ Vice-President Kirill Gevorgian of Russia and Judge Xue Hanqin of China.

FORMER SC JUDGE SERVING SECOND TERM AT ICJ
