Joe Biden ‘surprised, outraged’ by Shinzo Abe’s assassination

US President Joe Biden on Friday stated former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe’s imaginative and prescient of a “free and open Indo-Pacific will endure” as he expressed outrage over his assassination and underlined that gun violence all the time leaves a deep scar on the communities which are affected by it.

“I am stunned, outraged, and deeply saddened by the news that my friend Shinzo Abe, former Prime Minister of Japan, was shot and killed while campaigning. This is a tragedy for Japan and for all who knew him,” Biden stated in a press release.

Noting that he had the privilege to work carefully with Abe, Biden stated because the longest serving Japanese Prime Minister, Abe was a champion of the “alliance between our nations and friendship between our people” and his vision of a “free and open Indo-Pacific will endure.”

Abe, 67, was shot from behind in Nara in western Japan whereas giving a marketing campaign speech. Public broadcaster NHK stated police have arrested a Nara resident in his 40s, who allegedly used a hand-crafted gun to shoot Abe, a tragedy that has shocked Japan, which has a few of the strictest gun legal guidelines on the earth.

Biden, who’s coping with mass shootings within the US, stated “gun violence always leaves a deep scar on the communities that are affected by it.”

Biden stated whereas there are various particulars that aren’t but recognized concerning the assault, “we know that violent attacks are never acceptable and that gun violence always leaves a deep scar on the communities that are affected by it.”

The US President stated Abe cared deeply concerning the Japanese folks and devoted his life to their service.

“Even at the moment he was attacked, he was engaged in the work of democracy,” he stated, including that the United States stands with Japan on this second of grief and he despatched his deepest condolences to Abe’s household.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated he was deeply saddened by the tragic assassination of former Prime Minister Abe.

Blinken described Abe as “a great friend of the United States and whose leadership took the U.S.-Japan alliance to new heights. We share our deepest condolences with his family and the people of Japan.”
