Iran bars filmmaker from attending India movie pageant over help to anti-hijab protests

Iranian filmmaker Reza Dormishian has been banned from leaving the nation and won’t be able to attend the International Film Festival in India over his anti-regime posts on Instagram. Dormishian has been a vocal supporter of anti-hijab protests within the Islamic Republic.

By India Today Web Desk: Iranian authorities have barred filmmaker Reza Dormishian from visiting the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa over his help to anti-hijab protests within the Islamic Republic.

According to Variety, Dormishian is the latest consultant of Iranian cinema to face sanctions from the Iranian regime as a result of his expression of anti-regime opinions.

The IFFI had invited Dormishian for ‘A Minor,’ a film he produced. The film, directed by Dariush Mehrjui, was scheduled to play within the competitors. He didn’t, nevertheless, obtain permission from the Iranian authorities to depart the nation.

Although Dormishian’s passport was taken away on the airport, it was not instantly identified whether or not the filmmaker was detained or not. It is believed that the filmmaker’s criticism of the Iranian authorities on social media over the previous few weeks is straight associated to the actions taken in opposition to him, the report added.

Dormishian has been sharing numerous posts on his Instagram account to point out help for anti-hijab protests that erupted after the loss of life of Mahsa Amini, a Kurdish lady in morality police custody.
