Indian businessman shot useless in Uganda: Report

A 24-year-old Indian businessman has been shot useless allegedly by a police constable in Kisoro city of Uganda, in keeping with a media report.

The deceased was recognized as Kuntaj Patel.

Police constable Elioda Gumizamu, 21, from the Field Force Unit (FFU) has been charged with homicide after he was apprehended and handed over to the police on October 27 whereas he was attempting to flee the scene of the crime on the principle avenue, The Daily Monitor newspaper reported.

The accused policeman together with different individuals, who’re but to be tracked, walked into an Indian store dealing in {hardware} and shot the Indian businessman within the chest at round 2pm on Thursday, Elly Maate, the regional police spokesperson, was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

The policeman was intercepted and arrested. He’s presently detained at Kisoro police station for interrogation to ascertain the motive.

“The victim was taken to St Francis hospital in Mutolere in Kisoro District in critical condition,” Maate stated.

Hours later, Patel succumbed to the gunshot wound, police stated.

One of the eyewitnesses, Gilbert Mwiseneza, an off-the-cuff employee at Kuntaj’s store stated he and his boss had been attending to a shopper when the armed officer walked in and aimed the gun at his boss earlier than firing a bullet that hit him within the chest.

“After the shooting, he (policeman) tried to run away but he was intercepted by people who gave a chase,” Mwiseneza stated.

The Kisoro Resident District Commissioner Shaffique Sekandi condemned PC Gumizamu’s motion saying he had been within the Force for 4 years.

It is learnt that the Kenyan authorities has not stated something formally on the report.

Indian High Commissioner to Kenya, Namgya Khampa, met Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto and requested him for expediting the investigation into the matter, the Ministry of External Affairs stated in New Delhi.
