By India Today Web Desk: Hours after a British information broadcaster alleged Chinese authorities of assaulting and arresting its journalist, the Chinese overseas ministry issued a clarification stating the reporter didn’t establish himself as a journalist.
“Based on what we learned from relevant Shanghai authorities, he did not identify himself as a journalist and didn’t voluntarily present his press credentials,” overseas ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian was quoted as saying by the information company AFP.

British information broadcaster BBC on Sunday claimed that China’s police had assaulted and detained one among its journalists, who was overlaying the protest in Shanghai.
According to the BBC, the reporter was handcuffed whereas overlaying the protest rally in Shanghai. However, he was launched after just a few hours.
Hundreds of individuals took to the streets in Beijing and Shanghai on Sunday to protest in opposition to China’s zero-Covid coverage in a uncommon outpouring of public anger in opposition to the state. China’s hardline virus technique is stoking public frustration, with many rising weary of snap lockdowns, prolonged quarantines and mass testing campaigns.
