By India Today News Desk: The California state assembly handed a call, requesting the US Congress to formally recognise the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in India as ‘genocide’. The determination moreover urged the US Congress to condemn the violence.

The determination, handed on Monday by the California assembly, talked about the Sikh group inside the US had not however recovered from the bodily and psychological trauma of the riots, and urged the US Congress to formally recognise and condemn the November 1984 anti-Sikh violence as a genocide, data firm PTI reported.

The similar determination was handed by the Senate of New Jersey on January 6 remaining 12 months, in keeping with a Times of India report.

It was launched by assembly member Jasmeet Kaur Bains on March 22. It was handed unanimously by the California state assembly.

Bains is the first-ever elected Sikh member of the California state assembly.

The determination was co-sponsored by assembly member Carlos Villapudua. Only totally different Hindu member, Ash Kalra, moreover voted in favour of the choice.
