Australian man killed by kangaroo he saved as pet

A pet kangaroo killed a 77-year-old Australian man at a property within the sparsely populated southern city of Redmond in Western Australia.

A wild kangaroo is suspected of killing a 77-year-old man who was retaining it as a pet, Australian police mentioned Tuesday — reportedly the primary deadly kangaroo assault in 86 years. The man, who has not been recognized, was discovered by a relative on Sunday afternoon with “serious injuries” at a property within the sparsely populated southern city of Redmond in Western Australia, police mentioned.

“It is believed the man had been attacked by the kangaroo earlier in the day,” a state police spokesman mentioned.

An ambulance crew raced to the scene, however the man died there.

“At the property, there was a kangaroo that was preventing the ambulance crew from accessing the injured man,” the police spokesman mentioned.

Police mentioned they needed to shoot and kill the animal, because it “was posing an ongoing threat to emergency responders”. The kangaroo was believed to be a wild animal being saved by the person as a pet, police mentioned.

Though the kangaroo species was not recognized, the Great Southern area of Western Australia is house to the western gray.

The male western gray can develop as much as 2.2 metres (greater than seven toes) lengthy and weigh as much as 70 kg (154 kilos).

Australian media mentioned the final reported deadly assault by a kangaroo was believed to be in 1936.

In that incident, the Sydney Morning Herald reported {that a} 38-year-old man, William Cruickshank, had died in hospital in New South Wales, months after being attacked as he tried to rescue two canine from a big kangaroo.

The assault left him with a damaged jaw and in depth head accidents.
