Armed group in Congo assaults UN peacekeeping drive containing Indian Army troops

An armed group in Congo launched an assault on May 22 on the United Nations peacekeeping forces containing troops from the Indian Army.

An armed group launched an unprovoked assault on the MONUSCO (United Nations Mission within the Democratic Republic of Congo) and the FARDC (Congolese Army) positions in Congo on May 22. MONUSCO has the Indian Army troops deployed within the nation as a part of a multilateral United Nations peacekeeping drive.

The Indian Army and troops of different nationalities underneath the UN flag fended off the assault by finishing up a coordinated resistance with the FARDC.

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) launched a press release on May 24 condemning the assault and referred to as it a “deliberate attack targeting peacekeepers”. It added that such assaults might represent conflict crimes underneath worldwide regulation.
