Amid distrust of judiciary, Pakistan seems to revive navy courts that tried Kulbhushan Jadhav

By Hamza Ameer: Amid the Pakistani authorities’s distrust of the judiciary, after it provided blanket security to former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the federal authorities is considering bringing a legal guidelines to revive its navy courts. Indian nationwide Kulbhushan Jadhav was tried in a navy courtroom and was handed the lack of life sentence.

The navy courts have been first prepare as a response to the 2015 assault by the Pakistani Taliban on Army Public School in Peshawar on December 16, 2014, whereby 134 youngsters have been killed.

The courts, which try civilians charged with terrorism offences, had a two-year mandate that expired on 7 January.

Established on January 7, 2015, the navy courts have been established as part of the 20-point National Action Plan (NAP).

Under the navy courts, many Taliban terrorists have been put to trial and sentenced to lack of life.

Later, the courts have been abolished and shut down with a restriction to not implicate any civilian beneath the Army Act or the Official Secret Act.
