9 killed in stampede in Uganda shopping center

At least 9 folks have been killed in a stampede in a shopping center in Uganda on Sunday.

By India Today Web Desk: At least 9 folks have been killed in a stampede in a shopping center in Uganda on Sunday. People had been gathered on the Freedom City mall in Kampala for New Year celebrations when the stampede occurred.

As per native media stories, there was a stampede when folks rushed outdoors at midnight to observe the fireworks show.

After the show ended, a stampede ensued, ensuing within the instantaneous deaths of 5 folks and accidents to a number of others, a Kampala police official was quoted as saying by AFP.

In a tweet, Uganda Police Force mentioned, ‘The Katwe Territorial Police are investigating an incident of rash and neglect that occurred at a New Year’s Eve occasion on the Freedom City Mall Namasuba and resulted within the deaths of 9 folks, together with a number of juveniles.”

“Emergency responders arrived on the scene and transported the injured individuals to the hospital, where nine were confirmed dead,” police mentioned.

“The bodies have been transferred to City Mortuary Mulago. More information will be made available as it becomes available,” Uganda Police Force mentioned in one other tweet.
