6.1 magnitude earthquake strikes central Philippines, no casualties reported

By India Today Web Desk: A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck the Masbate area of the central Philippines on Thursday, in response to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). However, no tsunami warning has been issued and there have been no quick studies of injury or casualties, information company AFP reported.

The USGS mentioned the epicentre was 11 kilometres (seven miles) from the closest village of Miaga, in Uson municipality, on the province’s principal island of Masbate. The robust and shallow quake occurred after 2:00 am native time, jolting folks awake.

“It was a bit strong,” Masbate provincial police chief Rolly Albana advised AFP. “I was sleeping when we were shaken and woken up,” Rolly Albana added.

Albana mentioned police had not reported any results of the quake.

Uson police chief Captain Reden Tolledo advised information company AFP some residents fled their properties. “Even I went outside because of possible aftershocks,” Tolledo mentioned.

AFTERSHOCK FELT AFTER QUAKE
