4 killed as BRT undertaking girder falls on automotive in Bangladesh’s Dhaka

Four individuals, together with youngsters, have been killed when a girder fell on their automotive from a crane throughout Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) undertaking work on Dhaka-Mymensingh street at Uttara in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Monday.

The deceased have been recognized as Rubel (50), Jharna (28), Jannat (6) and Zakaria (2). Two individuals, Hridoy and Riya, have been injured within the accident.

The accident happened at round 3:30 pm. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Mohsin of Uttara West police station confirmed the incident.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Mohsin of Uttara West police station stated, “A girder fell on a private car while being lifted by a crane. It will be possible to tell if there are any passengers left inside the private car after the girder is removed. Rescue operations are ongoing.”

Meanwhile, BRT Managing Director (MD) Shafiqul Islam claimed that the incident occurred due to a mechanical fault.

He said, “While we have been taking the girder from one place to a different by crane, the crane in all probability tilted and the girder fell down.”

He further added, “At the second, I can’t say something with out realizing the small print. This is a mechanical downside. It shouldn’t be associated to safety measures.”

Traffic motion was disrupted as a result of rescue operations.
