Google Maps makes navigation simpler with transliteration in 10 Indian regional languages

Google has launched a brand new transliteration function in its Maps app to assist folks in India to navigate and discover close by locations higher. Google says that they’ve used transliterations from the Latin script (English) title of the place as a substitute of translations. The thought behind that is that individuals usually use names of locations in combined languages to seek for a sure place. The function could be accessed by customers by going into the settings of Maps app and selecting the specified language.

“In the past when Maps could not understand the context of एनआईटी, it would instead show a related entity that might be farther away from the user. With this development, we can find the desired result from the local language query. Additionally, users can see the POI names in their local language, even when they do not originally have that information,” he added.
Google added in its blogpost that there was a rise in protection and high quality enchancment of various locations in a number of languages. While the protection and high quality enchancment was measured at 3.2 and 1.8x within the Hindi language by the corporate, it reached 24x and 1.7x in Kannada.
