2 min read

Before the Lok Sabha elections, the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has expanded the cabinet and appointed four new ministers. Governor Anandiben Patel administered the oath to the four ministers today. Those who took oath as ministers included Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief OP Rajbhar, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD)'s Anil Kumar and two members of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – Dara Singh Chauhan and Sunil Sharma.

The number of ministers in the Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has now increased to 22. Sunil Sharma had won the Sahibabad seat of Ghaziabad by a record margin in the 2017 and 2022 UP elections. Five years after breaking ties with the ruling BJP and leaving the government, OP Rajbhar has once again returned to the Yogi Adityanath cabinet.

RLD, which was part of the India Bloc, recently changed sides and announced an alliance with the NDA. Anil Kumar is RLD MLA from Purkaji seat of Muzaffarnagar. He has become a minister in the Yogi cabinet under the alliance agreement between his party and BJP.

Dara Singh Chauhan had also left BJP and joined SP before the last UP elections. Then he resigned from the post of MLA and returned to BJP and contested the by-election from Ghosi seat, but lost. Now he is a Legislative Council member from BJP and has once again been made a minister in the Yogi government.
