Umerkote Bridge Collapse: Absconding Assistant Engineer Asit Patra Arrested | OTV News

Nabarangpur: The Nabarangpur Police on Sunday arrested Assistant Engineer Asit Patra in reference to the collapse of the under-construction bridge close to Talapadar village underneath Umerkote block within the district within the night of January 10. With this, the variety of arrests within the case rose to 2.
Reports mentioned, Patra, who was absconding because the incident, was arrested by the Umerkote Police from Tikiri space in Rayagada district, knowledgeable Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Hemant Kumar Padhi.
Earlier on January 12, contractor Asish Biswal, engaged within the building of the bridge was arrested from Baula Matha Sahi in Puri.
The Executive engineer of Rural Development Department had earlier filed an FIR in opposition to SDO Niranjan Sahu, junior engineer Asit Patra and contractor, Asish Biswal at Umerkote Police Station. The trio was on the run after the mishap.
The incident occurred when a slab of the bridge over Nagi river out of the blue caved in whereas some staff have been leveling the higher floor of the construction. Mahendra Mali of Raighar village in Nabarangpur district died on the spot, the opposite three labourers Prakash Bhoi, Ramesh Bhoi and Santosh Bhoi of Patrapara village in Puri district sustained important injures and admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).
The 68.25 mtr lengthy and eight.45 mtr broad bride is being constructed by a Bhubaneswar-based contractor underneath the Biju Setu Scheme of the Rural Development division. The bridge was scheduled to have been constructed at a price of Rs 2.41 crore by March 2019. But the contractor couldn’t full the bridge throughout the deadline resulting from unknown causes.
