Trinity undergoes purification after blood spills inside Srimandir

PURI: In an unprecedented incident, Lord Jagannath and his siblings needed to bear the ritualistic purification by Maha Snana (tub) on Sunday as a struggle between two police personnel led to blood spilling on the temple ground. 

Soon after providing of ‘Madhyahna dhupa’ (lunch) at round 1.20 pm, a scuffle broke out between two Jagannath temple police (JTP) personnel recognized as Gangadhar Pradhan and Manoj Panigrahi. In a match of rage, Gangadhar allegedly hit Manoj with a wood stump. Manoj sustained bleeding harm on his head.

As blood spilled on the ground at Beheran Dwar (door) close to ‘Bhitar Kath’, servitors needed to carry out the ‘Maha Snana’ ritual. As per the temple custom, if blood stains are discovered within the ‘Garbha Gruha’, ‘Bhitar Kath’ or ‘Bahar Kath’, the purification is noticed and the inside of the shrine cleansed in a ritual referred to as ‘Sodha’.

Sources stated Manoj was rushed to the district headquarters hospital and is being handled for head harm. Till filling of the report, no criticism was lodged by both of the JTP personnel with Simhadwar police. Only the servitors had been current within the temple discharging their obligation when the incident passed off because the shrine is closed for devotees on Saturdays and Sundays because of the prevailing Covid scenario. 

JTP is the safety wing of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA). There are over 100 JTP personnel together with common police  deployed by the State authorities within the temple.Taking a critical be aware of the incident, chief administrator of SJTA Dr Krishan Kumar has requested the temple officers to analyze the matter and file a report fixing accountability by Monday.
