SHGs to run three pickle manufacturing models in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: Mission Shakti in convergence with State Urban Development Authority (SUDA) has determined to arrange three state-of-the-art pickle manufacturing models at Baripada, Berhampur and Dhenkanal to cater to the wants of the Aahaar facilities throughout the State.

The 166 Aahaar centres within the State managed by girls SHGs require 300 tonne of pickle which is served with the new cooked meal at an reasonably priced price of Rs 5 to the city needy inhabitants. Each meal contains 10 gm pickle and until now, the SHGs have been buying the required pickle from the open market.

The State authorities has determined to faucet the potential of girls entrepreneurship by way of Mission Shakti SHGs by encouraging them to handle the semi-mechanised pickle manufacturing models. Maa Durga SHG at Baripada, Bighneswar-II SHG at Berhampur and Mahasangam Mission Shakti Area Level Federation (ALF) at Dhenkanal have been chosen to run the totally mechanised pickle facilities and fulfil the required demand of 300 tonne pickle yearly for Aahaar centres.

As per the choice, the models will provide pickles to the Aahaar facilities of 10 districts. All the three Mission Shakti SHGs have signed an MoU with Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI-CSIR), Mysuru on expertise switch of pickle making course of.  he president and secretary from the teams had already undergone an publicity journey to CFTRI in March to have first-hand expertise on pickle making.

The teams have already procured requisite uncooked supplies reminiscent of mango, lemon, carrot, ginger, inexperienced chilli and spices. The components have been saved of their centres for future use. The procurement of equipment and different tools from CFTRI has been accomplished.  

“The machines are being installed and the production will start from August. The project cost comes around Rs 80 lakh out of which Rs 47 lakh each (Rs 1.41 crore for three units) incurred towards civil construction has been borne by the Mission Shakti department,” mentioned an official.

All three teams have been supplied with a mortgage of Rs 30 lakh every from HDFC financial institution to satisfy the working capital and price of kit for operationalisation of the pickle models. While the estimated price of manufacturing comes round Rs 45 per kg, the promoting value has been proposed to be Rs 51 per kg.
