Rural polls: Young and previous eager to serve individuals, usher in improvement in Odisha’s Sambalpur

SAMBALPUR: The forthcoming rural ballot has been witnessing professionally certified children and retired individuals taking a plunge into politics and governance. In Sambalpur, a number of engineers, docs and retired defence personnel have filed nominations as candidates for the agricultural polls. Thirty-one-year-old Jayanta Pradhan of Dangapal village underneath Jujumura gram panchayat is a mechanical engineer who give up a profitable job in a personal firm to contest for the put up of panchayat samiti member in Jujumura.

“I grew up in Dangapal. I feel it is now my turn to do something for my panchayat as I am seeing people struggle for basic amenities in my village. In zone-1 of Jamankira block of the district, a 31-year-old Ayush physician Simantinee Bariha, is contesting the election for the put up of zilla parishad member.
