Relocated rogue elephant from Kerala forest enters human settlements in TN

Chennai, May 6: The rogue elephant ‘Arikomban’, relocated from Chinnakanal in Idukki district to the Mangaladevi forests in Periyar Tiger Reserve (PTR) spherical 110 km away, has entered the human habitations in Tamil Nadu creating scare among the many many of us.

The elephant, which has killed spherical six of us and destroyed larger than 300 houses inside the Chinnakanal house, was relocated exactly each week previously on April 29.

It was captured after being tranquilized by the Kerala forest division crew and later pushed into an animal ambulance with the help of 4 Kumki elephants.

‘Arikomban’ was fitted with a radio collar after he was tranquilized and the Kerala forest division was monitoring the indications which were being obtained from the animal. The Kerala forest division has warned the Tamil Nadu counterparts that the elephant was roaming in Tamil Nadu forest areas and was reaching areas close to human habitats.

The wild elephant, in keeping with native of us, entered the human settlements late on Friday night and early Saturday morning and tried to destroy crops. Forest guards and native farmers drove the animal away.

According to Tamil Nadu forest division officers, the animal had tried to enter human settlements in Meghamala, Iravingalar and Manamalar areas.

M. Chinnathambi, a farmer whereas speaking to IANS talked about, “We have heard enough of this rogue elephant. We have no idea when he’ll trample us and destroy our crops. We are afraid of even going out inside the evenings and nights as a result of the presence of the elephant cannot be detected and one could unknowingly land in entrance of it.

The Tamil Nadu forest division has constituted a 120 strong drive to keep up vigil on the entry of the rogue elephant inside the human settlements and to wade away the animal using gun photos and throwing nation made firearms.
