Printing of over 60 per cent of first amount textbooks achieved: Kerala Education Minister

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  The authorities has printed larger than 60% of the first amount of textbooks to be distributed in colleges throughout the upcoming academic 12 months, General Education Minister V Sivankutty has acknowledged. He was speaking at a gathering with the representatives of varied lecturers’ associations in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday to guage preparations in reference to school reopening on June 1. 

Of the 2.82 crore first-volume textbooks, 1.74 crore have been printed and the distribution in colleges is progressing, Sivankutty acknowledged. Besides, 4.15 lakh metres of handloom cloth was being distributed as uniform supplies for schoolchildren. The minister added that distribution of 5kg of rice for children who’re beneficiaries of the noon-meal scheme has been achieved.

Grace marks is likely to be awarded throughout the SSLC and Higher Secondary Plus Two examination to eligible faculty college students. However, the foundations for award of grace marks for faculty college students who participated in assorted extracurricular actions are however to be finalised. 

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the state-level ‘Praveshanolsavam’ programme on college reopening day on June 1. Admission to Plus one course will begin after announcement of outcomes of SSLC along with CBSE and ICSE examinations.
