Poovanchi landslide: Search operations finish as physique of seven-year-old boy recovered

IDUKKI: Two days after a devastating landslide swept away 5 homes at Poovanchi, a village in Kokkayar panchayat of Idukki, search groups have recovered the physique of the final lacking individual, a seven-year-old little one, on Monday.

The rescue staff waded by way of heaps of mud to tug out the physique of Muhammed Riswan, son of Shahul of Puthuparambil home in Poovanchi, on Monday morning.

In all, seven individuals died within the landslide which hit a residential space in Poovanchi on Saturday.

Six of the victims — Fousiya Siyad, 28, Ameen Siyad, 10, Amna Siyad, 7, Afsara Faisal, 8, Afiyan Faisal, 4, and Shaji Chirayil, 55 — had been discovered a day after the landslide on Sunday.

However, rescue staff couldn’t find Riswan’s physique on Sunday although the search operations continued until late within the night time.

By 11.30 am on Monday, his physique was recovered from the rubble close to the place the place his home was situated in Poovachi.

Riswan’s father Shahul, mom and siblings had escaped the landslip miraculously. However the seven-year-old acquired trapped within the particles and was unable to flee the fury of the gushing waters.

The landslide had destroyed 5 homes and broken acres of crop cultivated by the native residents.
