Orissa High Court turns down authorities plea for court-monitored SIT

BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa High Court had turned down the request of the Odisha authorities for a court docket monitored SIT probe into the Nayagarh minor lady homicide case. This was revealed from a reply by the High Court in response to an RTI question. 

In a letter to RTI activist Hemanta Kumar Panda on January 16, the Additional Deputy Registrar-cum- State Public Information Officer (PIO) B Dash stated that the Court was happy to not settle for a request from the State Government on this regard which was communicated to it on December 1.

The PIO stated, Special Secretary within the Home division Santosh Bala, in a letter to the Registrar General of the High Court on November 28, had requested the matter to be positioned earlier than the Chief Justice with a request accord permission to watch the investigation by a sitting decide.

Earlier on January 6, the PIO had written to Panda stating that no letter of request had been acquired from the State Government as on date concerning appointment of a sitting decide of the High Court to watch the SIT probe. 

Referring to the sooner reply, the PIO stated the knowledge was obtained from a selected part of the Court whereas the matter was handled within the confidential administrative aspect of the Court. “Further information pertaining to the RTI query in point number of 1 and 2 has been supplied now,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition Pradipta Kumar Naik reiterated the demand for a CBI probe into the case following the High Court’s clarification. Stating that the BJP had raised questions on the SIT probe from the start, Naik stated the state authorities is making an attempt to mislead the individuals over the case. His get together colleague and common secretary Lekhashree Samantsinghar alleged that the State Government is making an attempt to cowl up the incident and demanded the removing of Agriculture Minister Arun Sahu from the Cabinet.

The BJD, nonetheless, dismissed the BJP’s allegation and stated that the get together has been supporting the arrested accused on this case from the start. Party spokesperson Lenin Mohanty stated that the SIT has been usually submitting standing experiences to the High Court usually concerning the progress of the investigation.

Mohanty stated that on January 12, the High Court, perused the three standing experiences filed by the SIT within the case and expressed its satisfaction over the investigation and additional listed the matter to be heard once more on March 25, 2021. “People of Odisha are watching the falsehood propagated by BJP on a daily basis and will give a fitting reply as they have given in the past,” he stated.Replying to Samantasinghar, BJD panellist Ipsita Sahoo stated that she ought to combat for the accused within the Court.
