Odisha’s Madhusudan Law varsity will get UGC recognition, plans chair on Utkal Gaurab

BHUBANESWAR: The Madhusudan Law University at Cuttack has been recognised as a State-run varsity by the University Grants Commission (UGC) beneath part 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956. The college is now empowered to award levels as specified by the UGC beneath part 22 of the UGC Act by conducting programs via its personal departments, its constituent and affiliated faculties in common mode.

In a letter to the registrar of the college, the UGC has said that the Madhusudan Law University shall make sure that no off campus examine centres are opened past its territorial jurisdiction as stipulated within the Act. Besides, no programmes might be supplied by the college via franchising preparations with personal establishments. 

No open and distance studying programmes and on-line programmes will also be began with out the prior recognition of UGC. Earlier this yr on April 28, the State authorities had upgraded the Madhusudan Law College into an affiliating college with jurisdiction over all regulation faculties, each authorities and personal, within the State besides constituent regulation faculties of different universities.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan took to Twitter to tell that the regulation college has been included within the checklist of universities established beneath UGC Act. “The Central government is committed to transforming the higher education landscape as per the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and in line with the NEP”, he mentioned.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Kamal Jeet Singh mentioned the subsequent step for the college could be to use for inclusion beneath part 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956 which makes the next training establishment eligible to obtain Central grants for analysis and growth. “As per UGC norms, we cannot immediately apply for section 12(B) and have to wait for another four years to do so. We are very happy with the UGC 12(f) inclusion as it will open a lot of opportunities for the institution”, he mentioned.

He knowledgeable that the tutorial council of the regulation college had on October 7 authorised plans to supply PhD programs and arrange a chair on Utkal Gourab Madhusudan Das. However, the VC mentioned, the largest roadblock for growth plans is the shortage of infrastructure.

“We are still housed in the old college where there is no space for opening new courses or enrolling more students. We have already approached the Odisha Police Housing Corporation for construction of another building of the university at Jobra and written to the State government to provide us another 45 acre land for expansion”, he mentioned.
