Odisha: Villagers lock faculty over midday meals, trainer crunch

UMERKOTE:  A highschool in Nabarangpur’s Umerkote block has been locked by villagers for the final three days over provision of mid-day meal (MDM) and appointment of lecturers. Villagers of Rajpur locked the principle gate of Dongriguda authorities highschool on Sunday. Though the native block schooling officer (BEO) held dialogue with the agitators on Tuesday, the deadlock couldn’t be resolved.

For the final 18 months, college students of Dongriguda authorities highschool are compelled to take their mid-day meals in Rajpur major faculty which is round 2 km away. Roti Gond, a villager, mentioned, “Students are facing a lot of difficulties in having their noon meals. They have to trek four km every day for the MDM.”

Sources mentioned earlier, the native administration had tried to merge the 2 colleges. However, it was not potential as villagers of Rajpur opposed the transfer. Later it was determined that 117 college students enrolled in Classes VI to VIII of Dongriguda excessive School would go to Rajpur major faculty to take their midday meals until the difficulty is resolved.

This aside, the scholars are struggling as a result of lack of enough lecturers in Dongriguda highschool. Another villager Tula Bhotra mentioned the college has no everlasting headmaster for the previous couple of years. Besides, two lecturers have been transferred from the college not too long ago. “In absence of teachers, students are being deprived of getting quality education,” he alleged.

Contacted, BEO Bikash Sarkar mentioned he has apprised the matter to the district schooling officer. Efforts are underway to pacify the agitating villagers and open the college.
