Odisha: Tribal girl beheaded over suspicion of witchcraft

BARIPADA: A tribal girl was beheaded in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district over suspicion of working towards witchcraft, police mentioned on Saturday.

The incident occurred at Purunapani village within the Bangriposhi police station space, they mentioned.

Police seized the skeleton and cranium of the lady, Kuni Jerai (55), on Friday, mentioned inspector-in-charge Sanjay Kumar Parida.

Jamira Singh (30), the accused, was arrested and despatched to judicial custody after being produced on the court docket on Saturday, police mentioned.

Singh suspected that his son died due to Jerai’s witchcraft, they mentioned.

He beheaded the lady with an axe and threw the physique at a spot close to the village on July 9, police mentioned.

Jerai’s household filed a lacking report, following which police started an investigation.

Police mentioned they’ve seized the homicide weapon.
