Odisha: Lady cop accuses Opposition chief of manhandling, BJD seeks scalp

SAMBALPUR/BHUBANESWAR: Leader of Opposition (LoP) and Sambalpur MLA Jayanarayan Mishra on Wednesday landed in a soup after a girl police officer accused him of manhandling throughout a celebration protest assembly. The alleged incident happened in entrance of Sambalpur collector’s workplace when BJP staff have been jostling with police throughout a protest over deteriorating legislation and order within the state.

Basing on officer Anita Pradhan’s grievance, a case was booked towards Mishra. Pradhan is inspector answerable for Dhanupali police station. A counter case has additionally been registered by the LoP.In her grievance, Pradhan alleged Mishra abused her in addition to pushed and slapped her. The officer stated she was deployed on the collectorate through the protest by BJP staff led by Mishra.

“We prevented the woman workers from entering the collector’s office. When the male BJP workers took the lead, policemen came in front to stop them. The female officers including me were making our way out when I accidentally ran into the LoP,” she stated.

The officer stated Mishra reportedly requested her to identification herself and when she did, he abused her. “When I protested, he first threatened to hit me and eventually pushed me and slapped me in presence of the public, mediapersons and other police personnel,” the IIC alleged. Mishra refuted the allegations and stated he acquired data that police have been harassing girls BJP staff which he went to resolve.

“But the IIC told me that I was speaking a lot against the police and pushed me. Since allegations were levelled against the police, they hatched a conspiracy against me. I don’t even know the IIC,” he claimed.
Sambalpur SP B Gangadhar stated he has sought a report over the incident. The matter might be inquired and motion might be taken as per legislation, he added.  

The incident snowballed right into a political controversy with BJD in search of elimination of Mishra as LoP for allegedly manhandling a girl police whereas BJP stated it uncovered state of policing within the state.
