Odisha: KISS wins UNESCO International Literacy Prize

BHUBANESWAR: In a worldwide recognition, the Kalinga Institute of Social Science (KISS) has been conferred the celebrated UNESCO International Literacy Prize for this 12 months.

The prestigious prize carries an endowment of USD 20,000, a medal and a quotation. It was given away at a worldwide award ceremony organised by UNESCO in Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday.

KISS is the fifth recipient from India and the primary from Odisha to obtain this worldwide honour. The prize was introduced by KISS founder Dr Achyuta Samanta throughout the celebration of International Literacy Day on the establishment’s campus. KISS which offers a holistic setting for complete improvement, and vocational and sports activities empowerment for 70,000 tribal kids can be the third amongst Indian non-profits and the primary tribal-based organisation to get this award.

Founded in 1993 with simply 125 college students by Samanta, KISS has grown to change into the primary such establishment for tribal kids on this planet.
