The announcement to cancel the examination was made by the Chief Minister a day after minister of state for college and mass schooling Sameer Dash had a gathering with high officers to debate all elements of the problem.

Earlier this week, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) had cancelled the Class XII board exams. Several states together with Gujarat, Karnataka and Maharashtra had additionally cancelled Class XII board examinations.
