Odisha: BJD MLA booked for failing to show up at personal wedding ceremony

PARADIP: A case was filed towards BJD MLA Bijay Shankar Das on Saturday after he failed to show up for his personal wedding ceremony, police stated.

The case was filed towards Das, the legislator of Tirtol, on the Jagatsinghpur Sadar police station based mostly on the grievance of a lady who alleged that he cheated her as he didn’t flip up on the marriage registrar’s workplace on Friday, they stated.

The case was filed underneath IPC sections 420 (dishonest), 195A (threatening any individual to provide false proof), 294 (obscene acts and songs), 509 (phrase, gesture or act meant to insult the modesty of a lady), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 120B (punishment of felony conspiracy) and 34 (acts carried out by a number of individuals in furtherance of frequent intention), amongst others, inspector-in-charge Pravas Sahu stated.

The couple utilized on the marriage registrar’s workplace on May 17.

Though the girl alongside along with her household reached there for the marriage formalities on Friday after the stipulated 30 days, the MLA failed to show up, as per the FIR.

Das, 30, stated he has not denied getting married to her.

“Another 60 days are there for the registration of the marriage. Therefore, I did not turn up. I was not informed by her or anyone else to go to the marriage registrar’s office,” he informed reporters.

The girl claimed that she was in a relationship with Das for 3 years, and he promised to marry her on the scheduled date.

“But unfortunately, his brother and other family members are threatening me. He did not keep his promise and he is not responding to my phone calls,” she alleged.
