KOZHIKODE: Various ladies’s organisations within the state have come out towards the federal government order on relocating survivors of sexual assault crimes at varied Nirbhaya properties to a single-facility in Thrissur.

According to activists, the transfer will put undue stress on the ladies who’re already traumatised and struggling to return to regular lives.

They identified that the Kerala authorities’s choice is unscientific, particularly for the reason that circumstances of every youngster are dealt with at their respective districts, and asking dad and mom to journey to Thrissur from varied components of the state for the proceedings of their youngster’s case is unethical.

Advocate P Ok Noorbeena Rashid, common secretary of National Women’s League advised TNIE that the federal government order was issued on June 13 dismissing the goals on which the Nirbhaya properties had been based.

“The first Nirbhaya home came into existence in Thiruvananthapuram.  The government has come up with some illogical reasoning that by closing down Nirbhaya homes across various districts and setting them up in a centralised unit will reduce the expense of the government. The girls are brought to such institutions because of the trauma they have experienced.  Hence, the government should be careful not to make harsh decisions that affect them psychologically,” she stated including that fifty p.c of the youngsters are from SC/ ST communities.

She known as on the governement to withdraw the order because it has not thought of the sensible difficulties of the youngsters and their households. Noorbeena additionally criticised the State Level Coordinating Committee, chaired by the chief Minister, which has not convened a gathering or evaluated the functioning of the Nirbhaya properties previously 5 years.
